About
Bristol Bar Society
The University of Bristol has an international reputation for attracting exemplary students from both the UK and overseas, with the Law School ranked 9th in the UK by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2026. Bristol Bar Society feeds off this reputation by equipping students with the knowledge and experience required to succeed as advocates, a notoriously competitive profession.
Throughout the academic year, we arrange events including engaging talks by barristers, judges, alumni, as well as advocacy workshops in partnership with chambers and BPC/BTC/BVS providers. Moreover, we offer opportunities for visits to the Inns of Court and Supreme Court, alongside mooting competitions, mock trials and intervarsity events, to give our members the best chance towards accessing the Bar. We also frequently send students to networking events and awards ceremonies in partnership with the Inns of Court and chambers.
Our membership attracts students from all backgrounds and ages, thanks to our goal to show students the Bar is becoming increasingly diverse and is a viable career path regardless of socio-economic background. Bristol Bar Society welcomes everyone, including non-Law students, and we are committed to expanding our range of events and opportunities for those who seek to become a barrister through with or without a law degree.
